re:mote: auckland was held on March 19th, 2005 at the Elam School of Fine arts. It was the first in a series of one-day experimental festivals discussing the them of remoteness and technology. New Zealand was picked as the premier of the event given its location "at the ends of the Earth". The festival brought together new media art theorists and practitioners from New Zealand, Australia, Europe and Japan to discuss the theme of how technology can negate the problems of remoteness.

Presenters from Sydney, London, Helsinki, Rotterdam and Newcastle presented their work live via video stream to the festival. New Zealand presenters attended in person and shared their work. In total there were 14 presentations over 8 hours. QuickTime, IRC, Skype, iVisit, iChatAV and the Palace were among the applications used for the presentations.

The second in the series was held in Regina, Saskatchewan of Canada on May 20, 2005.
